Community Convenings are our smaller gatherings focused on a specific Alaskan village, town, or region. Here, we carry the spirit of The Summit into more intimate community spaces. We focus on relationship-building, conversation, and supporting the Just Transition work happening locally.

These two day events usually gather 50-100 people. We work with local partners for the year preceding the event and continue working with the community for the year afterwards. This is the first step in joining The Alaska Just Transition Collective.

In order to bring us to your community, we require:

  1. Two local partner organizations, at least one of which is Indigenous-led, to work with us collaboratively.

  2. The ability to feed and gather your community. Usually this means hiring a catering company, renting a venue, and bringing in qualified childcare providers.

  3. Lodging for our staff.

  4. Community interest in working together long-term.

We fund the event and all the above mentioned expenses related to it, including the staff time while working on the Community Convening for our partner organizations.

We are very excited to be partnering with the Qutekcak Tribe and the Seward Prevention Coalition to bring our first Community Convening to Seward, Alaska on August 28-29, 2025. We look forward to telling you about the important work they are doing in their community.
